We asked Freya’s mum Shandelle to share a few comments about their Vision Therapy experience.
The challenges of and best times to practise.
Practice towards the end of an 8-week block was tricky. We had to make it a priority and all work as a team to get it done. We split the practice into 10-minute time slots in the morning and after dinner as the more challenging the tasks became the harder it was to get the practice completed.
What changes have you observed in Freya’s learning and overall confidence?
The changes in Freya's learning and confidence have been dramatic and have occurred in areas that we weren't expecting. Firstly, Freya's reading improved significantly and after 8 weeks she was able to read chapter books without constantly losing her place. With this came an improvement in her focus and ability to learn, and most importantly a renewed sense of confidence at school. Freya's coordination and timing also improved dramatically, which surprised us... all of a sudden, she could dance in time with the beat and she started to love playing sport because she was finding it much easier.
Would you recommend Vision Therapy to others?
I would recommend Vision Therapy. It has significantly changed our daughter's literacy, concentration, focus, coordination, overall confidence and love of life.
Signs that Vision Therapy may be needed
Difficulty reading/learning: Losing place or skipping lines, poor comprehension or reversing words or letters.
Short attention span for visual tasks: Frustration and avoidance of tasks that require concentration.
Eye strain/ headaches: When reading or watching a screen.
Closing an eye or tilting the head: This can indicate that the eyes aren’t working together correctly.
Difficulty with eye-hand coordination: Losing place or skipping.
Blurry Vision? Try this.
Rest Your Eyes: Look at something 20 feet away every 20 minutes for 20 seconds.
Stay Hydrated: Keep your eyes moist with artificial tears if necessary.
Protect Your Eyes: Use safety goggles when working with tools or chemicals.
Regular Checkups: Visit your eye doctor regularly to catch potential issues early.
Congratulations to our Vision Therapy graduates!
